Ron, My non-engineer opinion here is that it is the relationship of the CG to the main gear ground contact point and not so much it's relationship to the wing lead edge. The more rearward the CG is located from the gear ground contact point the more the aircraft wants to "switch ends". The fact that the CG is usually located in the forward portion of the wing would suggest a relationship to the lead edge. Larry Flesner
