The simple solution to wood bonding, using West System epoxy or any other "like" epoxy, is with the addition of a filler. Fumed Silica (Cabosil) is used to thicken epoxy and increase it's bonding strength to wood. To thicken epoxy for bonding wood and gap filling add approximately 3% by weight. To make a gel coat paste, which is extremely hard and abrasion resistant, mix approximately equal volumes. You will have to experiment to develop the best ratios for the specific epoxy system your using.
NOTE: Fumed Silica (Cabosil) mixed with epoxy dries to a very hard finish, which can be difficult to sand. The west epoxy was to runny to stay in the joint. It does not appear to have good gap filling qualities
