One concern with not having a fresh ram air supply to the heat muff but instead pulling air from under the engine is the possibility of carbon monoxide if you have any kind of an exhaust leak. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32133949/IMG_8090.JPG Having said that I don't have ram air either but use a small 12 volt fan from a battery charger on the inside of the firewall to pull air to the cockpit. A carbon monoxide detector patch on the panel would be advisable. Larry Flesner
