I fly out of Dallas just under Bravo airspace a lot and in the summers I go for
elevator rides in the plane...these are not only thermals and are unpredictable
but so is latent wake turbulence from the heavies that passed above your
airspace and may affect you as that turbulent air descends and moves away from
the large jet's path...just remember to keep your trays in the full upright
position and your belt securely fastened.

Thanks for posting this Mark. Two weeks ago I flew commercial to Detroit. When
we took off from Midway we were climbing out into perfectly smooth air and
without any warning whatsoever we hit a bump that felt like I had driven over a
speed bump at seventy. But it was only one single bump. Nothing before and
nothing after. I have never experienced this and it was some time before I
really settled down. Just glad to know that this is not unusual.
