Jeff asked,

"How many of you carry a fire extinguisher in your planes?"

I do!

I bought the little Halon unit that Aircraft Spruce sells. I don't
remember paying what they're currently asking for it but do remember it
wasn't cheap.

I'm normally not that concerned about in-flight fires so I'm not sure
what motivated me to buy a pricey little fire extinguisher when I bought
my plane in 2006. The only thing I can think of is that in flying back
to San Diego from Omaha with the plane I had so many fuel leaks from
loose hose clamps and a bad primer valve that the possibility of a fire
must have seemed more likely back then than it does today. Once I got
the plane home and got it all apart the fumes and leaks were dealt with
but I still went ahead and bought the little halon unit for some reason.
It fits in a little catch-all basket between my seat and the fuselage
side and until Jeff posted his message I'd pretty much forgotten that it
is there. If I ever have to use it I'll just hold my breath until the
fire is out and fumes are cleared. It only holds a 12 second charge so I
can hold my breath that long, easy.
