Really?  Just call me ignorant and out of date on such things. Still 
have mine, so is it a valuable relic or indication of senility?
Seriously, I was sure I read recently that it is required, and to be 
renewed fairly regularly at a cost of ~ $65 or so - - - -

I will do some digging and report either way.
