The Glasair line does use a center section standpipe for a capacitive probe.  

I don't necessarily have a picture of your tank configuration, but why not put 
a flange in the side wall of the fuel tank and mount the probe there?  Mine 
were done that way with the probe bent up towards the top of the tank, then 
angled down to the bottom of the tank.  Drill a .060" hole in the tube at the 
highest point to prevent air locking.  It works quite well, although as pointed 
out, it may not necessarily be linear due to tank shape.  Once in, all you need 
to do is set the zero and span, and it's good to go.
