"what is the proper method to cut the control to size? "
Hello Alex, I have a normal throttle cable, a vernier, and a ratcheting type cable control that works great for vents. In all cases I just installed the cable where I wanted it and marked the end where it needed to be cut. I then removed the knob with the internal cable attached and cut the sheath with a Dremel tool with an abrasive disk. I then ran a fine file around the cut edge just to give it a little chamfer and reinstalled the knob and wire. Then cut the cable to the length that you need. If I remember correctly it may have been the vernier that had some internal components so when you take it apart be careful with it.
