I just checked the almanac temps, winds, and directions for KCNO for the
past few years for Sept 5th (sorry, it's actually the 7th):

2008 ave wind 3mph max wind 18mph high temp 98
2009 ave wind 4mph max wind 16mph high temp 98
2010 ave wind 3mph max wind 9mph high temp 97
2011 ave wind 3mph max wind 12mph high temp 97
2012 ave wind 2mph max wind 12mph high temp 91
2013 ave wind 3mph max wind 16mph high temp 105 (a record
for this date)
2014 ave wind 3mph max wind 1mph high temp (so far) 94

The winds appear to be right down the runway for most of the day (on
average), with a brief swing to WNW around lunchtime, then back to the
normal WSW (down the 7000' x 150' runway). These temperatures are for the
heat of the day...means for first week in September are around 78 degrees.

I talked to Steve Glover around lunchtime, and everything is cast in stone.
It's a little late to change the date. I'm looking forward to flying there.
Like most of us, I'll have the good sense to check the weather before I fly
in (and as I'm flying in), and will not land if it's dangerous. I would
think Calfornia has AWOS stations like we have in the south. If necessary,
I'll fly in late when things have calmed down.

If the Gathering were at MVN, we'd have rain and low ceilings to worry
about, and gusty winds are not uncommon there either. I'll take my chances,
and be happy that I'm adventurous enough to get outside my comfort zone on
occasion. I hope others will join me, including Mike...
