Most pilots that hate Stromberg carbs don't understand the internal workings of a Stromberg or how the mixture control is designed to work. Very simple carb and very reliable. But they will bite you if you don't take the time to learn how they operate, especially if you try to use the mixture control or have expectations for it to work like a Marvel Schebler. Remember, they are a 1930s design. Driving a 1930s car would be challenging as well. :o)
