The KR was initially designed around the VW engine, which in barebones configuration would weigh at least 1/3 more than a 2 stroke Rotax, making building somewhat problematic, but doable. Properly maintained and operated, the Rotax is a good engine. Four cycle engines can be more forgiving in that respect. Higher fuel consumption, lower time between suggested overhaul, and the sound of the engine is enough to steer a lot of builders away from a 2 stroke.
