Enclosed is a photo of the hinge progress. The hinges are now shaped and
installed, ready for paint. One unexpected problem is the tight clearance
between canopy and front deck. They're so tight that the slight forward
travel of the canopy's front edge interfered with the front deck during the
first few degrees of opening . I've clearanced it somewhat, and as luck
would have it, you wouldn't notice that it needs to be repainted. Maybe the
paint was .060" thick there! I'll need to buy paint for the hinges anyway,
so not a huge deal if it needed it, I suppose. After that, it's just a
matter of installing the gas springs, which I already have laid out. I
think this will be a fairly unobtrusive hinge. Not bad for an afterthought!
I have photos and will whip up a little web page when it's finished. Now
it's on with finishing up the panel wiring, fuel system changes and hooking
up the control cables, and a million other little details. Hoping to fly it
to OSH this year...
