I find it hard to believe that any company would sell carb gaskets or seals that are intolerant of alcohol, given that it's been in gasoline for forty years now. Surely they're not using "old stock" gaskets still, but that's one plausible explanation. Have you asked about the tolerance of those seals, or do they only "talk" to dealers also?

Ellison's are supposedly intolerant of ethanol, at least they had not been tested with gasohol at the time I bought mine. A few years ago Steve Bennett told me had been soaking an Ellison diaphragm for several years in E85, and it was still fine. I ran a few thousand gallons of ethanol through my Ellison, and the diaphragm looked so good, I left it in place to continue the "test".

I looked around a bit regarding Zenith carbs and alcohol, and instead happened across the following e-book from 1922. It's a hoot to read, and is a time capsule into the automotive world at the time. See the link below if you have a few hours to kill learning interesting trivia about the state of the automobile repair industry in 1922, including the prediction that all automobiles would be running pure ethanol by 1925!
