Summary: External monitor glitches after 6.8.0 → 6.8.1 upgrade
(NVIDIA, Wayland)

Title: External monitor [flickers / blacks out] after upgrading KWin 6.8.0 →
6.8.1 (Wayland, NVIDIA)
Summary
After upgrading Plasma from 6.8.0 to 6.8.1, my external monitor started
[flickering, artifacts, black flashes]. The laptop’s built-in screen is
unaffected. Downgrading the Plasma packages back to 6.8.0 fixes the problem,
and the same monitor works fine in a GNOME session on the same system, so this
appears to be a KWin regression in 6.8.1.
Steps to reproduce
Upgrade to Plasma 6.8.1.
Log into a Plasma Wayland session with an external monitor connected via HDMI .
What triggers it: happens immediately, when moving windows.
Observed result
black parts, flickering
Expected result
The external monitor displays normally, as it did on 6.8.0.
Additional information
Started immediately after the 6.8.0-1 → 6.8.1-1 upgrade (Arch-based /
EndeavourOS).
Downgrading all Plasma packages to 6.8.0 resolves it.
Not reproducible in GNOME on the same hardware, cable and driver.
Setting KWIN_DRM_NO_DIRECT_SCANOUT=1 did not help.
External monitor: [gameon 27QHD180IPS, 2k @ 144 VRR off].
NVIDIA driver: nvidia-open-dkms 615.78.08-1
