I can't reproduce the problem here with digiKam-8.6.0. In both versioning and
normal save mode, digiKam asks about saving the images, and the buttons are
illuminated accordingly.
Now, your digiKam-7.9.0 version is already very old (over 3 years old). I would
close the bug as fixed.
