Hi, I believe that for OpenJUMP a better approach would be to use standard NMEA sentenses and stream them to OpenJUMP for further processing. OJ could be used for so much more that just record GPS locations. Something like ArcPad http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcpad/index.html or SOLO Field http://www.tdsway.com/products/solo_field or perhaps the emerging Open Source alternative GvSIG Mobile http://www.gvsig.org/web/projects/gvsig-mobile/gvSIG-Mobile-en/view?set_language=en
By the way, individual trackpoints in gpx file may also have attributes like GPS fix type or HDOP value. They will be lost when track is converted to a linestring. Sometimes it could be useful to have an option to convert tracks to points instead. -Jukka Rahkonen- > -----Alkuperäinen viesti----- > Lähettäjä: Sunburned Surveyor [mailto:sunburned.surve...@gmail.com] > Lähetetty: 5. toukokuuta 2009 17:43 > Vastaanottaja: OpenJump develop and use > Aihe: Re: [JPP-Devel] Super Stoked About GPX Support > > Ede, > > I guess the tricky part of reading waypoints and tracks > directly from a GPS receiver is two-fold: > > [1] You have to use communication ports on the computer to > talk to the receiver.
