I would certainly like to work on this bug in the near future,
although I don't think I will get it in time for our next release. I
would like to add a button for Andreas' new option of selecting an
image for the fill patter, and I'd also love to support WKT pattern
fills based on Geoff's plug-in.

This is a fair amount of work, so I'm not sure when I will get to it.
I will add it to my list of things to do.
