Yes and No,

i checked as well. Save Selected Datasets works fine in that it 
separates the geometry types. The error message is indeed not a real 
error message. It should rather be a warning - pointing to the message 
window. Because the user should know that a new file is generated with 
the extension of the geometry type, but also that the layer name is 
taken. The latter is an issue since the layer name of the original file 
may be different from the file name.
I have now replaced the "Error: see Output Window" by "Warning: see 
Output Window"

However, the original save dataset as... does not do this separation. So 
there needs to be done some work on that (at some point..).
Probably we simply need to port the code from "save selected datasets" 
to "save dataset as.."
