Hi, I used buoy when I wrote SimpleQueryPlugIn. After that, the plugin has been included in OpenJUMP's core.
Buoy has been written by a single developper which is also the author of aoi (art of illusion), a fantastic 3D modelling and rendering software. At that time, I thought that buoy could become a great library for ui development. Now, I still consider buoy as a very cool library, but I can see that adoption by java community is very slow, and you are right, adding such a library for only one plugin is not worthwhile.
