Speaking as somebody who had not even considered using javascript, because
of a complete and utter lack of knowledge of its inner workings, the major
reasons for selecting jquery as a tool of choice were

1. it is readily understandable (once you have taken the time to read the
documentation and understood what is possible via the selectors
available)....unlike the other frameworks, which went straight over my head

2. the way that you write your functions/routines , is a very simple
transformation of your thoughts into quasi english/jquery language

3. the community here is not only very active, but also very helpful........

4. the amount of plug ins (all useful) that have been posted and
subsequently been improved upon, by other members of the list is totally
and utterly impressive.........

5...................suppose I had better let others give their thoughts on
why jquery is simply the best

Is Jquery slower because it's more compact then? ie. better for light
usage?
I much prefer the syntax and the community around jquery. I never got
any helpful responses from anyone on the mootools forum when I was using
that library.
