No, I don't think I have disabled semantic, it works fine with other
modes. I also once turned it on explicitely in .emacs.
jde-enable-senator is t, jde-which-method-mode is turned on. And it's
not only JDE which doesn't parse the Java buffers, ECB and Speedbar
don't do so neither.
