I expect major changes in major releases, and needn't be notified of every last detail of such changes ;-). Ideally the major-changes doc is true to its name -- the major changes. If it's too long; people won't read it or will have trouble picking out what's interesting from what isn't. Deprecation is a nice couertesy. We could leave comments on the source code on where to find equivalents so we don't put minutia in the upgrade notes. IMO the methods that were removed/moved are very unlikely to be used.
