Jan Høydahl commented on SOLR-16061:
------------------------------------

In any case, branch_9_0 needs a text in "Major changes in Solr 9.0" stating
that there is a back-compat change wrt Cloud clients, and what steps to take to
upgrade user-application. We cannot really refer to 8.11.2 in the 9.0 release
so it is a bit tricky. But I believe the upgrade-notes is an important
supplement to the Deprecation notice in 8.11.2, so people prepare for the
client upgrade and not face it as a surprise.

Are we aware of any restrictions wrt upgrading user-application-side solrj
before or after upgrading the solr cluster to 9.0? I would guess that Solrj
8.11 works with a 9.0 cluster and also that a 9.0 solrj works with a 8.11
cluster? If that is the case, users have great flexibility in the upgrade
planning.

> Spinoff from SOLR-15342
> We need to decouple CloudSolrClient from Zookeeper, to prepare for a future
> modularization of solrj. This should be targetet for 9.0.
