This is the only thing that worked, although it is a hackydihickhack hell:
```groovy
// replace Lucene version by dynamic one:
rootProject.ext.luceneBaseVersionProvider = rootProject.provider {
(new File(gradle.includedBuild('lucene').projectDir,
'build.gradle').getText("UTF-8") =~ /baseVersion\s*=\s*'(\d+\.\d+\.\d+)'/)[0][1]
}
