I too would be interested to see the outcome of this Dateline
study. I'm sure that in the case of a lesbian/trans, tomboyish
behavior as a child is not uncommon (not *always* present
either, just not uncommon). But I'm hoping their little study
goes a way towards disproving the myth that *all* tomboys
are destined for non-hetero lives. Once in my 33 years of
life have I worn a dress without my mother making me (a
male friend and I decided to get decked out for a night in
Manhattan). The Barbie-ish dolls gathered dust while I
played with G.I. Joe (though I never thought to decorate
his fort with Barbie heads ... will have to try that sometime).
Makeup is reserved for job interviews and formal occasions.
I am often assumed to be a lesbian by both men and women,
yet I'm plenty hetero. I know lots of other hetro women
whom society would peg as "butch," just as I've known
plenty of lesbians who don't fit the stereotype.

Anyway, I agree that the producers are likely doing the
study expecting most of these girls to be the stereotype.
I'm hoping that enough of them aren't to make at least
some people think.

that last sentence was grammatically correct or I'm
just spacing.
