Well, "being a recognized leader" in a male-dominated field is going
to be selective for men since it's men (many of whom are sexist) who
do the recognizing.  And men don't have a monopoly on taking risks --
they're just perceived as having such.  The fact that many women have
to be concerned not only for themselves but for their children, for
whom they are the only source of support, does lead to some degree of
legitimate risk aversion, though...
