This is not completely the case down here.....it may just be an East 
Texas/Louisiana thing, however.  I have several "older" friends (55-65) who 
call everyone babe, sugar or dear....male or female, and they are male....it 
is strange at first, but once you realize it is not meant sexually or 
derogatorily, then it is kinda cool...
