Heck. I'm guilty of it too! I'll call people dear or darling, usually when
I'm being sarcastic towards them. I only do this with my friends though,
because I don't want to offend anyone I work with. 

It does bug me when I'm at a resturant (And not like Taco Bell or
something... :) and the waitress calls me dear, or worse calls one of my guy
friends babe/sugar/etc...
