(Hopefully only a minor rant)

But this is WHAT I AM BURNED OUT ABOUT UNIX AND LINUX. All this "I am a
tough work hard/play hard unix geek...RFTM...It's Nature..." That and
"deal with it..." I can sort of forgive the falling into the "beer
commercial barrel" or putting up images of "X-Files Foxy Mulder
Babe..." but its the meaness relabeled as "toughness" that bothers me
and , shouting people down seldom proves your point. Even stating: "I am
uncomfortable with that..." to my aunts when they go off on the "body
image 60 min criticism..." doesn't help no matter how loud I state it.

And I can see all the points, of how it is nice not to be looked at by a
single metric or measure "(s)he's cute..." Although I guess I am not hit
on all that much seriously, so I tended to see someone's advances to me,
in a positive or amusing light. So I never got too mad at "Crossed
Preference Advance" but was more amused and glad someone was interested
some how.

If it was "all the time" it would be a different thing. But anyway I
drifted away from themes. That's what rattles me, it is not pictures,
but mean nasty behavior, and being always told to "blow it off" or "deal
with it".

The guy side of this, is that as a guy one is supposed to just put up
with high levels of creulty and meanness. It is that, and not the bright
chrome like guy world of chromed auto parts etc. that sets me off.

My general response it to do something like quote Jewel, whose poetry
sometimes leaves a bit to be desired. But the nice 10 year girl (just
some 10 year old...)handed me the album, and she is RIGHT, "It doesn't
take talent to be MEAN (emphasis mine)..."

                                                       Have Fun,
                                                        Sends Steve
