I would also like to add that, in my experience, women are better than men
at this software thing. In my current situation, I was offered this position
by my partners because I was the best person for the job, and not because I
am female. Even though my company is still small, we have a 50-50 distribution
of males and females in the engineering department. Additionally, we are
looking at hiring two additional engineers and of the 100+ resumes we have
looked at the top two candidates are women. I'm hoping that we'll get'em.
Furthermore, in my last two jobs I have also been the lead in the teams I was
involved in, and the male-female ratio was about 50-50. Never have I encountered
either the condescendedness that you talk about, or the discrimination that I
hear so much about. Maybe I've led a sheltered life, but I doubt it.
In summary, don't you EVER think that you can't do something a man can. All it
takes is the desire to do it, and most of the time we can do things better than
men can.
So there!
