I have to agree.  Since others already have expressed to be in favor of
a "mass cleanup", I'm not opposed. :-)

It appears to me that several extensions get rather "odd fixes" only
(borrowing the terminology of EXTENSIONS).

I beg to differ.  Fewer extensions mean less code to maintain.
