You are right - it would be useful to provide some free support and security updates to a particular release I'm sure the wheels are turning to develop this somewhere...

To: [email protected] Date: Friday, March 19, 2010, 9:43 AM Ken, I am aware of the support repository and my understanding is that this is for paid support; however, the first line of initial article in this thread indicates that Oracle doesn't plan to continue selling support for OpenSolaris stable releases. If that is the case, then this paid repository would eventually be closed. The question I was answering would be "would a free, perhaps more limited, replacement be useful? And my answer was yes. A six month release cycle with updates from a paid support repository makes sense to me. But if you remove the update capability, whether paid or free, then the release cycle becomes too long. Some update capability would be needed to keep the repository useful. I'm not particular as to how that capability is implemented as long as it is reasonably easy to use. -- Rand -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ indiana-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/indiana-discuss _______________________________________________ indiana-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/indiana-discuss
