Hello,
Thanks for suggesting that but I suspect I am not even getting there on
the dell laptop, as I said I can log in fine with b130 and b131 on my
desktop system.
Why I suspect I am not even getting to GDM log in screen. The little bit
of sight I have can make out a light patch in the middle of the screen
when GDM appears if I use my desktop, but I don't see this on the dell
510m. Also by following your instructions to log in to the CD, it works
fine on the desktop but not on the dell 510m.
Now I thought I have given the dell plenty of time to boot properly to
GDM, I hear the CD drive stop spinning and the read head being returned
to the stopped position (its the one good thing with a laptop CD drive
they are quite noisy and the machine is quite quiet) and then I waited
for a few minutes after that to see if it was going to boot any more.
Also I don't see the screen backlight go out and back on (I think it
does this when it changes screen settings like resolution and normally
seems to happen when X is being started).
I really think I need to try and get the output on the screen before we
can guess what the problem is, unless someone else has a 510m to try with.

Hi Michael:
If so, there's currently a bug with the login screen on the live CD -- it comes up when it
shouldn't. So, when you reach the point where you've gone past the keyboard/language selection
prompts and the CD stops whirring, your machine might be at the GDM login prompt. At this point,
you need to press the Enter key, type "jack" for the username, press Enter, type
"jack" for the password, and then press Enter to log in. From there, things should
behave normally.
You can track the progress on the bug at

Hello,
I am having problems getting the b130 and b131 LiveCDs to boot on my dell
inspiron 510m. I know that the CDs are fine as they boot on another system
without issue. The b129 LiveCD boots fine on the dell laptop.
A bit more detail, I am sorry I can't provide detailed error messages but I am
blind so rely on orca for accessing the system, any suggestions on how I might
get error messages would be useful. I did try logging in via ssh but I couldn't
get it to connect.
So what I do is boot from the b130/b131 LiveCD, at the boot prompt press down
cursor to get the option to have orca automatically start and press enter.
After a short time I get a beep to indicate the keyboard selection menu, I
press enter and get the beep for language and press enter. The CD spins a bit
more continuing to load but then after a minute or so it stops but I am not at
the GDM login screen. As I said trying to connect via ssh at this point doesn't
work and pressing various keys which might possibly make things proceed (eg.
enter, etc) don't do anything.
As I said I have successfully booted these CDs on another system and I am aware
of the problem where you need to log in on the b130 and b131 LiveCDs.
Anyone know what is wrong or how I might go about finding out what is wrong?
