Hi Michael: If so, there's currently a bug with the login screen on the live CD -- it comes up when it shouldn't. So, when you reach the point where you've gone past the keyboard/language selection prompts and the CD stops whirring, your machine might be at the GDM login prompt. At this point, you need to press the Enter key, type "jack" for the username, press Enter, type "jack" for the password, and then press Enter to log in. From there, things should behave normally.
