I'll add my datapoint to this. A machine that has been step-wisely updated from indiana preview through 98 (with only a few bumps along the way) did not boot after this upgrade. Reading the forums (before I tried) I thought about doing the grub update before the reboot, but I was curious to find out if that would really be necessary. I had upgraded grub after a zpool upgrade not too long ago.
