sanjeev, thanks for your response.
do read my response to ajith's email, titled "tax model/method" for reasons
to do with direct/indirect taxation.
but straight to your question:
i care that you increase taxation, because not does it just hurt my
neighbour, it hurts me more, thanks to the whole policies and market dynamics
of non-FreedomBasedSoftware. the impact is at a personal, individual,
business, economic, and national level. the impact is also significant in the
technology-fo! r-technology's sake domain. is also there in terms of
innovation, opportunities, competition. and finally, also there in terms of
'freedom' as we understand from gnu.org.
so will taxation make me richer? in terms of money, yes, because it brings in
a more healthy, level-playing field. people will have the freedom *to
consider* alternatives, and that for me is important. whether they excercise
this option is up to them.
it makes me richer in non-monetary terms as well: i have more choice, i have
more freedom, i am not forced to conform to something i may not like for lack
of freedom, or perhaps forced to break the law if i have no choice. my
definition of personal wealth, of what makes a person richer, goes beyond
monetary evaluation, and into the realms of freedom, values, value-system,
moral choices, what values and knowledge that person can share with others,
and several other such realms. from the perspective of freedo! m-based software
and its vision and philosophy, i strongly say, yes, it makes me richer, when
you understand my defiintion of the word 'rich'.
it makes me richer for if i choose to go the freedom-based way, i free up
money which i could use elsewhere.
speaking poetically on the way we live today and its so-called wealthy:
I see beggars wearing diamonds.
:-)
