I was facing the same problem at my company, i found the solution using Qmail courier-imap
both courier-imap and qmail can be configured to authenticate via ldap.
 
In addition you can set up squirrel mail (no sure about this) to allow users for web access
 
The users created via LDAP will be only mail users, they have not linux users.
Each user will have his own mail directory.
