>From what we have at my office, Sendmail as well as IMAP & POP3  servers
authenticate users via a LDAP server using PAM. We have not setup sendmail
or imap or pop servers with any ldap specific  patches. I guess the same
should work for Qmail-CourierIMAP combination too.
