India has a lot of disabled people and they cannot afford to buy expensive aids. Linux and open source had gifted us with the ability to do cost effective solutions. So request you to please take up something which can help them. Personally I am working on a local paging system for schools for deaf children (This will be made open source once I start actual work). I thank Mr.Lenin of Birla planetarium to have directed me to the problem faced by these schools. The idea is to use Arduino+Nokia LCD+2.4GHz wireless. Keep it extremely affordable from the Indian perspective. There are a lot of more requirements. Lots more for blind people too.
