KG has stressed this point also. In my experience, I have seen the word கணக்கு being used for account(as in user account, both in and out of a computing context) frequently by tamil-speaking people. Like I said in a previous thread, new, not-so-used words that capture the concept better, should be welcomed, but at the same time, commonly used words should also be mentioned to make it easy for the user.
