I think, the requirement is restriction based on LDAP users. This is the big problem in Linux arena. And also this is a good project for the research students to undertake. Ubuntu comes with all the tools required for setting up this server. However, there is no GUI utility for the same. And REDHAT seems to have easy GUI configurable option. I configured samba within two minutes through GUI, like creating user and creating share. And REDHAT also supports centralised authentication mechanism. However, i havent dealt deep in to this. One other possibility. Almost all colleges deploy a centralised server for user authentication, and most of them use win 2003. If LUG member could concentrate on it, and encourage students to undertake projects based on this, we can create an alternate CAS for win 2003. We have all the tools available, and the only thing needed is to combine all those, prepare a very good documentation, and then persuade few colleges to deploy the system. In my company, we have hosted wordpress and Confluence in linux server, but there is a problem in implementing SSO for compatibility with windows network. Any idea about this? Any one interested to take it as either mini or academic project?
