it was solely for incoming mail (but will include email sent from one
user of the platform to another)

Agreed, but I don't believe that the machine learning specifically takes
account of the number of recipients ... in fact it's likely that
classification will be more accurate for N events (rather than 1 event
with N recipients) because the N events will take longer and hence a
pattern is more likely to be discerned.

I think the reason for the increase in the likelihood of multiple
recipient mail being spam is because mailing lists (which are probably
mainly good email) are rare compared with spammers who have sorted their
address lists by domain ...
