I'm not familiar with smnp traps as method for passive checks.

For hosts which want to provide passive data to icinga2 we use nscaweb
(ischluff fork) [1] instead nsca-ng. The fork provides additional to the
normal nscaweb an authentication which depends to login _and_ hosts.
nscaweb accept requests, check authentication and permission of the user
and pass the passive data along to the icinga-command-pipe (icinga.cmd /
icinga2.cmd).

The configuration is easy and logging is good.
