Hi Michael

well, currently we're using LConf, but need to add nodes to LDAP more or less
manually or half-automated when nodes are added or removed.

The simplest form to register a new cloud instance to the monitoring system,
would be that the instance itself calls a tiny php script on a webserver which
is passed the hostname and ip of the launched cloud instance, which
automatically adds the new host to lconf and triggers an export of the lconf
tree to icinga master and (if affected) slave nodes.

Off course, this idea is very LConf specific, but would surely be useful for
people running an auto-scaling cloud stack. I'm not sure what would be the most
"generic" way to implement automatic adding/removal of hosts and services, but
I hope that this post can serve at least as a basis for discussion...

My "dream" is that the icinga api some day supports the remote adding or
removal of all kinds of lconf objects.

Kind regards
Daniel
