I think a couple of separate things are possibly mixed up here.
- Batch is what is run as a batch job in an initiator or possibly too as an 
STC, in contrast to online which is usually TSO, although you can run TSO and 
USS in batch.
- My remark was referring to applications that might not support Extended 
datasets. In fact it does not matter how the application is started.
- afaik, all these differences don't matter to encryption. This also comes into 
play when the application is processing its file, whatever the way it was 
brought to life.
