No, it is a good question. SAN switches are needed (or more efficient in connections) with more complex configurations. Since most configurations are that complex that SAN switches are useful, one only talks about these configurations. So the simple configurations where you connect one device to one CPC (and don't need a SAN switch) are never mentioned, but still are valid.
