Many ISVs and internal IBM developers have been aware of the pending change for 
a year or so.

Someone said more than 8 ain't gonna happen.  (Specifically, Linux's 32 was 
mentioned.)

Others mentioned that compatibility with existing use of the eighth character 
of user ID and DSN prefix could cause compatibility problems (no one seemed 
much concerned with UADS), and if the feature is optional many sites might 
choose not to enable it.
