Betreff: AW: EXAMPLE OF BACKUPING UP A VOLUME USING DEVICE ADDRESS

When using INDD or LOGINDD, the specified DD statement will cause MVS to moan
with IEF244I and IEF877E, if the corresponding device is not mounted and
online. For INDYNAM and LOGINDYNAM the manual states that the devices have to
be mounted and online. So, no offline dump with DFDSS

Walt,

It is probably a valid thought as the OP did not specify what type of volumes
were being backed up.

Since both z/VM or z/OS Volumes could be offline for backup, just covering the
bases.

The other thought is that the OP is trying to backup offline volumes. I know
FDR from Innovation can do that. I am not sure that DFDSS can backup offline
volumes.
