Hi Lizette, the OP wasn't very specific to what he wants to achieve and didn't react on any of the replies he did receive already. It was me who brought z/VM into the game, telling him that DDR would be his friend. Under z/OS, there's no native tool that I know of to dump a volume specifying only the device address, z/OS is mainly volser oriented. (unless, you'll write your own) Christian

You cannot use the DFSMSdss stand-alone restore program to restore dumps of VM-format volumes. Do you have your volumes online to z/OS? Do you have an OS Compatible VTOC on Track zero record 5?
