Free of charge and quite easy to setup:
DFS/SMB + notepad.
Works even for KSDS.
Where would SMB insert record boundaries?
How would one deal with binary (e.g. COMP) fields containing patterns
that might spoof record boundaries (e.g. x'0D0A')
The question is how notepad can update records in place, insert records,
etc.
It CANNOT.
It's good for viewing data, read only.
